Federal Clean Technology ITC (not available to homeowners)
Quotes and calculators often apply a 30 percent federal Clean Technology investment tax credit to a residential solar or battery project. It does not apply. Income Tax Act subsection 127.45(1) defines a qualifying taxpayer as a taxable Canadian corporation or a mutual fund trust that is a real estate investment trust, so an individual homeowner cannot claim the credit however the purchase is financed. Canada has no federal investment tax credit equivalent to the U.S. residential credit, so treat any price reduced on this basis as an error.

Good Energy rebate (Government of Yukon)
The territorial Good Energy rebate pays $800 per kilowatt of generating capacity on a home renewable energy system, to a maximum of $5,000, and it applies territory-wide regardless of which utility serves the community. Off-grid systems and diesel communities such as Watson Lake remain eligible even while grid-tied micro-generation intakes are paused. Claiming it requires invoices or receipts stating the capacity of the system in kilowatts along with proof of payment, and for a grid-tied system a signed Micro-generation Interconnection and Operating Agreement or a final approved electrical inspection report. Confirm the current amount and requirements with the Energy Branch before relying on a figure in a quote.

Micro-generation Program - intakes PAUSED, no export compensation
The Government of Yukon Micro-generation Program is what lets a grid-connected homeowner sell surplus power to their utility, and its intakes have been paused for all communities since December 2023 while the government and the utilities assess the grid upgrades needed to absorb more renewable generation. Because becoming a micro-generation client requires a signed interconnection and operating agreement, a new grid-tied installation today receives nothing for electricity exported to the grid, from either the utility or the government. Both utilities are affected: ATCO Electric Yukon, serving Whitehorse and Watson Lake, restricts new distributed energy resource connections, and Yukon Energy retails to Dawson City. Existing clients keep an annual Government of Yukon reimbursement each April, capped at 65 percent of the modelled annual generation of the system, with no rollover. No reopening date is published, so treat export value as zero for a new project and confirm the current position with the Energy Branch.
