Federal Clean Technology ITC (not available to homeowners)
Quotes and calculators often apply a 30 percent federal Clean Technology investment tax credit to a residential solar or battery project. It does not apply. Income Tax Act subsection 127.45(1) defines a qualifying taxpayer as a taxable Canadian corporation or a mutual fund trust that is a real estate investment trust, so an individual homeowner cannot claim the credit however the purchase is financed. Canada has no federal investment tax credit equivalent to the U.S. residential credit, so treat any price reduced on this basis as an error.

Total Home Energy Savings Program
NB Power's Total Home Energy Savings Program covered residential solar PV at $200 per kW, capped at $3,000 or 15 kW. Solar enrollment closed on 27 May 2026, so it is not available to a new project and any quote or payback figure that still includes it is wrong by up to $3,000. Confirm the current status before relying on any provincial rebate.

NB Power Net Metering
NB Power credits exported electricity at the same volumetric rate you would otherwise pay for power, a true 1:1 credit rather than a reduced buy-back rate. Unused credits roll over month to month but reset to zero every 31 March, so anything left at year end is forfeited rather than paid out. That reset is what should set your system size: build to your own annual consumption rather than to the roof area available.

NB Power Net Metering Program
NB Power credits exported electricity at the same volumetric rate you'd otherwise pay for power, a true 1:1 credit rather than a reduced buy-back rate. Unused credits roll over month to month, but reset to zero every March 31, so anything left at year-end is forfeited rather than paid out. Systems are capped at 100 kW of nameplate capacity, and before switching on you need an electrical wiring permit, a Department of Public Safety inspection, and written NB Power approval, which includes installing a compatible meter. NB Power has asked its regulator to replace this 1:1 structure with a net billing model featuring separate buy and sell rates plus a demand charge; as of August 2026 that proposal is still under review and has not taken effect, with existing participants to be grandfathered onto current rules for up to 10 years if it is approved.
