Federal Clean Technology ITC (not available to homeowners)
Quotes and calculators often apply a 30 percent federal Clean Technology investment tax credit to a residential solar or battery project. It does not apply. Income Tax Act subsection 127.45(1) defines a qualifying taxpayer as a taxable Canadian corporation or a mutual fund trust that is a real estate investment trust, so an individual homeowner cannot claim the credit however the purchase is financed. Canada has no federal investment tax credit equivalent to the U.S. residential credit, so treat any price reduced on this basis as an error.

Efficiency Manitoba Programs
Efficiency Manitoba has historically offered residential solar rebates in the $5,000 range, but programme status changes and there is no guarantee one is open when you buy. Confirm directly with Efficiency Manitoba before signing a contract, and do not let an installer include a rebate figure in a payback calculation without showing you the programme it comes from.

Manitoba Hydro Net Billing
Manitoba Hydro runs net billing rather than net metering, and the difference decides how a system should be sized. You generate for your own use and sell the surplus for a monetary credit rather than banking kilowatt hours, with exports bought at a posted excess energy price of 7.173 cents per kWh in effect until 31 March 2027. Because that is well below the retail rate you pay to buy power back, electricity consumed as it is generated is worth considerably more than electricity exported. Ask what replaces the posted price after March 2027 before building a long payback on it.

Manitoba Hydro net billing
Manitoba Hydro uses net billing, not net metering, and says so itself: you generate for your own use and sell the surplus for a monetary credit rather than banking kilowatt-hours. Exports are bought at a posted excess energy price of $0.07173 per kWh, in effect until 31 March 2027, against a residential energy charge of 9.970 cents per kWh effective 1 January 2026, so a kilowatt-hour used in the home is worth more than one exported. That export price is reset each year and has ranged from $0.02403 to $0.07173 since 2020, so the current figure is the high end of its own history rather than a fixed rate. Generators must be under 100 kW. The residential basic charge is $9.84 a month, with a further $9.84 on a service over 200 amps. Manitoba Hydro is the sole electricity supplier in the province, so these terms apply throughout Manitoba.
