For a solar owner this is the consequential half of the arrangement, because the retailer, not the wires company and not the province, sets the rate your exported power is credited at.

That leaves you with two conversations held with two different companies. One is technical and belongs to FortisAlberta: system size, equipment, the interconnection agreement and the meter. The other is commercial and belongs to whichever retailer you sign with: what a micro-generation contract credits, what happens to a credit balance, and what the term and exit conditions look like. A quote from an installer settles neither of them.

What an exported kilowatt hour is actually worth here

Alberta runs micro-generation, not one for one net metering, and the difference lands on the bill. Exports are credited at your retailer's energy rate. Everything you import is billed at that energy rate plus transmission, distribution, riders and local access charges, and no export credit ever reaches those delivery lines. A kilowatt hour pushed out at noon and bought back at nine in the evening comes back more expensive than it left.

The practical consequence is that using your own generation beats selling it by a clear margin. Running the dishwasher, the laundry and a vehicle charger while the array is producing avoids the fully delivered rate on that energy, whereas sending the same kilowatt hour to the grid earns the energy component alone. Alberta has no province-wide residential time-of-use tariff, so none of this is about cheap overnight hours: what is worth timing around is your own production, not the clock.

The same arithmetic is the honest case for a battery in High River. Storage does not win you a better export rate. It converts an afternoon export into an evening kilowatt hour you no longer have to buy at the delivered price.
