What an Orillia roof produces in a year

That figure assumes a well oriented, unshaded array, so treat it as the top of the range for your own address rather than a guarantee. The threshold moved in your favour recently: as of May 1, 2026 the Ontario Energy Board raised the simplified micro embedded generation limit from 10 kW to 12 kW, so systems that would previously have been pushed into a heavier process now qualify for the streamlined one.
There is one piece of Orillia sequencing worth knowing about. If you apply for a Canada Greener Homes Initiative grant on a project under 10 kW, you may be asked to supply Hydro One's own offer to connect letter as part of that application. That letter comes out of the utility process, not the grant process, so the two files have to run in parallel rather than one after the other. Canada still has no federal investment tax credit for residential solar equivalent to the American one, so do not budget around a figure you read on a United States site.
Beyond those, some Ontario municipalities and local utilities periodically run financing schemes such as local improvement charges or on bill financing that can be applied to solar. Availability is genuinely local and it changes from year to year, so treat it as a question to ask rather than a line to plan around.
