The 30 percent federal residential tax credit (Section 25D) applied through December 31, 2025 and is not available for a purchased home system placed in service after that date, so most 2026 homeowner purchases cannot claim it. If you go solar through a lease or a power purchase agreement, the provider may still claim the business version of the credit (Section 48E) and pass part of the value through in your rate. Focus on Energy Residential Renewable Rewards
Focus on Energy, Wisconsin's statewide energy-efficiency program, pays $600 per kW up to a maximum of $2,400 for a single-family home, for systems installed between January 1 and December 31, 2026. RESERVE BEFORE YOU INSTALL: the program requires a reservation application submitted before installation, with the rebate application following completion, and funding is limited and available on an annual first-come, first-served basis. Installing first and applying afterwards is the way people lose this money. The rebate application is then due within 60 days of installation completion, with a final deadline of January 31, 2027. Eligibility is more technical than most rebates and can disqualify a roof: a Wisconsin-licensed contractor, a participating utility, a grid-tied system behind the meter of at least 0.5 kW DC, panel orientation within 135 degrees of due south, tilt between 5 and 50 degrees, less than 15 percent obstacle shading, equipment drawn from the qualified module and inverter lists, a minimum five-year warranty, and new equipment only. Have your installer confirm the orientation, tilt and shading figures against the program thresholds before you sign, since those are measured rather than estimated.
