Federal Clean Technology ITC (not available to homeowners)
Quotes and calculators often apply a 30 percent federal Clean Technology investment tax credit to a residential solar or battery project. It does not apply. Income Tax Act subsection 127.45(1) defines a qualifying taxpayer as a taxable Canadian corporation or a mutual fund trust that is a real estate investment trust, so an individual homeowner cannot claim the credit however the purchase is financed. Canada has no federal investment tax credit equivalent to the U.S. residential credit, so treat any price reduced on this basis as an error.

SaskPower Net Metering Program
SaskPower's programme is named net metering but works as net billing, so read the mechanism rather than the name. Exports are credited at 7.5 cents per kWh, guaranteed until 31 March 2029, against a residential energy charge of 15.476 cents per kWh effective 1 February 2026. Credits offset consumption charges rather than banking energy, so electricity used as it is generated is worth roughly twice what the same kilowatt hour earns exported. Connecting also carries a 315 $ interconnection study fee and at least 498.75 $ for the bi-directional meter.

Saskatchewan's programme is named net metering but works as net billing, so read the mechanism rather than the name. SaskPower credits exports at 7.5 cents per kWh, guaranteed until 31 March 2029, against a residential energy charge of 15.476 cents per kWh effective 1 February 2026; credits offset consumption charges only, never the basic monthly charge or taxes, and are never paid out in cash or transferred. Projects run up to 100 kW DC per meter. Two cities keep their own utilities. Saskatoon Light & Power pays 8.25 cents per kWh to applicants after 26 November 2025, against a 17.02 cent retail energy charge, with the earlier 1:1 rate of $0.114846 surviving only for grandfathered enrollees; it serves the pre-1958 city boundary, while SaskPower serves areas annexed since. Swift Current Light & Power banks a dollar credit at 7.5 cents per kWh against a 17.024 cent retail rate.
