Income Tax Act subsection 127.45(1) defines a qualifying taxpayer as a taxable Canadian corporation or a mutual fund trust that is a real estate investment trust, so an individual homeowner cannot claim the credit however the purchase is financed. Canada has no federal investment tax credit equivalent to the U.S. residential credit, so treat any price reduced on this basis as an error.

efficiencyPEI's Solar Electric Rebate Program has been among the most generous in the country, paying $1,000 per kW DC installed, covering up to 40 percent of costs, to a maximum residential rebate of $10,000. It is paused for new applications after reaching capacity for the fiscal year, and existing pre-approval holders can continue. Any quote or payback figure assuming it is currently wrong by up to $10,000, so ask efficiencyPEI what the intake status is and whether you hold a pre-approval before planning around it.

Maritime Electric Net Metering
Prince Edward Island runs genuine 1:1 net metering, set by section 13 of the Renewable Energy Act: the kilowatt hours a customer supplies are subtracted from the kilowatt hours delivered, and a monthly surplus is credited to the account in kilowatt hours. Those credits hold no cash value and are cleared annually rather than paid out. Maritime Electric also requires the generation to be for your own property, which rules out an array on one building offsetting consumption at another you own.

Net metering under the Renewable Energy Act
Prince Edward Island runs genuine 1:1 net metering, set by section 13 of the Renewable Energy Act: the kilowatt-hours a customer supplies are subtracted from the kilowatt-hours delivered, and a monthly surplus is credited to the account in kilowatt-hours. Those credits hold no cash value, and on 31 October each year any credits outstanding from the preceding calendar year expire unless the net metering agreement sets another compliant date. Generators are capped at 100 kW, and installations of 30 kW and larger may need three-phase service. Two utilities apply the same rule separately: Maritime Electric across the Island, and the City of Summerside's own electric utility within Summerside. Both charge 17.84 cents per kWh on the first 2,000 kWh of a billing period and 14.23 cents above that, effective 1 August 2026, and a net metering customer pays one service charge even though two meters are installed.
