Heat Pump Rebates in Alberta

Alberta does not run a broad provincial heat-pump rebate the way BC and the Atlantic provinces do, but the federal supports still apply and the running cost of a heat pump in Alberta is competitive. Calgary and Edmonton run Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP) financing, and utilities run periodic rebates.

Programs available in Alberta

Oil to Heat Pump Affordability (federal)

If your Alberta home heats with oil, this federal program puts up to $10,000 toward switching to a heat pump (applications close July 31, 2026). It remains open for oil-heated homes.

Greener Homes Affordability Program (federal, income-qualified)

The income-qualified federal program delivers no-cost retrofits through provincial partners for low- to median-income households, rolling out province by province, so confirm Alberta availability with your installer. Note: the broader Greener Homes Loan closed to new applicants Oct 2025.

Municipal and utility programs

Calgary and Edmonton run Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP) financing repaid through property taxes, and utilities such as ENMAX, ATCO, and EPCOR run periodic rebates. Your installer flags any that are open in your area when you get a quote.

Federal programs and related incentives

Solar incentives often complement heat-pump programs in Alberta. Note: the federal Greener Homes Loan closed to new applicants in Oct 2025. The Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program remains open for oil-heated homes, and the income-qualified Greener Homes Affordability Program is available through provincial partners. Alberta heat pump rebate FAQ

Is there an Alberta heat pump rebate?
Alberta does not have a broad standing provincial heat-pump rebate. The federal Greener Homes Loan closed Oct 2025, but the Oil to Heat Pump program applies for oil-heated homes, and Calgary and Edmonton run CEIP financing plus utility rebates. The installer confirms anything current in your area.
Is a heat pump worth it in Alberta?
Yes for many homes, with a cold-climate unit for the winters. Even without a big provincial rebate, the efficiency gain and the federal financing make the math work, especially for homes replacing oil or electric heat.

Pair it with solar

Power your heat pump with your own solar

A heat pump runs on electricity, so the cheapest way to run one is to make that electricity yourself. Pair a heat pump with home solar and a battery and you cut the running cost, keep heating and cooling through an outage, and lock in your energy bill for years. Homeowners electrifying their heating are the strongest fit for solar plus storage.

  • Run your heating and cooling on power from your own roof
  • Battery backup keeps the heat pump running during outages
  • Lock in your energy cost instead of riding rising utility rates
